Media Center for your TV

I have been wanting to integrate a media center to my TV for a while now but didn’t really want to go out and buy one. I tried to see if I could use an old computer, but all I could find were computers that were about 5 years old. Then I bought a Wii and tried to use it’s “media center” aspects through flash in Opera (very limited). I even used the popular program called TVersity. Though it worked, using it with the Wii produced bad results.

I was always a fan of Windows Media Center. I have Vista running on my main computer for a while now. And when over at a friends house, I saw it integrated with an Xbox 360. But again, because of the economy, I didn’t want to buy an Xbox 360.

Then I heard about XBMC and Boxee. I knew Boxee would run on Linux and MacOS, which meant that it would run on AppleTV, other Mac hardware, and any other hardware running Linux (Windows coming soon). Still though, I didn’t want to buy an AppleTV.

I started to research about XBMC. I found that they’re still supporting it on the XBOX. All it takes is for you to “hack” in the console through a few steps. You gain functionality of the normal XBOX games, but gain much more with SoftMod, UnleashX, and more importantly XBMC.

So I did it with my old XBOX that i had in storage and it works perfectly. I just had pay $25 in parts from Ebay. I’ll post a review of XBMC at a later date after living with it for a while. So if you have an old XBOX, why not?
