Journey through Music: James Taylor

James Taylor is a Grammy Award winning American singer/songwriter. Started in the 1960s but has carried his listeners through the years to today. I know I’m a big fan of JT. I think it’s the soft ballads, it’s his sweet, calm voice; it’s the intricate picking of the guitar. It’s all of these and more, which is why I enjoyed this time to go back and listen through his collection of songs. Here are my favorites (actually all of them, but if I must choose):
Fire and Rain – classic
Carolina In My Mind – classic
Your Smiling Face – the riffing on the piano gets me
Steamroller – loved this other side of James Taylor-growling, soulful
How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) – though James didn’t write this song, it was a great cover
You’ve Got A Friend – my favorite classic JT song
James Taylor is why I started playing guitar in the first place. I just remember growing up and hearing his songs (of what I heard in my R&B youth) and wondered how cool it would be to learn to play guitar. So I did and I’m glad I did.
So thanks, Mr. James Taylor. It was a great journey through your music.
