NAMM: Blue Microphones

I’ve always liked Blue Microphones. They make very high quality microphones for a great price. Though, for a budget studio, it’s still pretty pricey.

They came out with an update to the Snowflake this year, called the Eyeball. It’s a USB microphone design for the go. What’s neat on this mic is it has an HD camera built in (I’m not sure if it’s really HD quality, but probably better quality than 1.3Mp). The purpose was so you can do your YouTube videos better.

They also came out with what they call the Icicle, a product that’s a converter from XLR to USB that takes their microphones (or any, for that matter) into USB to plug directly into your DAW, such as GarageBand on the Mac. It’s also a mic preamp, and senses if your mic needs phantom power and gives it power through USB. More and more companies are doing these types of converters and Blue Microphones is coming along the way.

Another product is the Mikey, a microphone recorder system that plugs into a Apple IPOD Nano (probably an IPOD as well). It has a sleek design, has 3 switches on the front to adjust for levels and a speaker in the back. It also requires no software needed and is “plug’n'play” to the IPOD. Neat. Kind of reminds me of my Griffin recorder for my old 3rd gen IPOD.
